Power Station, originally uploaded by earthmagnified
I just received this from Rob Yasinsac who runs Hudson Valley Ruins website regarding the Yonkers Power Station:
I thought that you would be interested in some news regarding the Yonkers Power Station. If you have not heard, the developer who announced plans in early 2007 to build vast condo towers above the power station backed out in December. The power station still remains vulnerable to insensitive redevelopment or destruction, and the Yonkers City Council has sat on our Local Landmark application for two-and-a-half years now. The Preservation League of New York, myself and others will have an announcement this Wednesday regarding advocacy efforts in the interest of the power station (details below). Sorry about getting this out to you on short notice but, if you can, please join us in a show of support for the preservation of this incredible building.
Full press release below the fold.

WHAT: An important announcement by thePreservation League of New York State and others regarding the YonkersPower Station, completed in 1906. Though unanimously recommended forlocal designation by the City of Yonkers Landmarks Preservation Boardin 2005, the power plant complex remains unprotected. This marvel ofearly 20th-century engineering – built when the New York CentralRailroad electrified the Hudson and Harlem Lines – is in danger ofbeing lost, but could be re-used in a way that respects the building’sindustrial character and architectural integrity.
